Woman in Police custody dies of heart attack
A woman who was in the custody of the Morawaka Police passed away on 28 March. She was arrested following a warrant issued by the Morawaka Magistrate The deceased was a 36-year-old woman living in Nelum Street, Morawaka.
Police had admitted her to hospital following a sudden illness. However, she passed away on the same night.
The Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) of Matara who carried out the post-mortem said, the cause of death was a heart attack. The body was handed over to relatives. Morawaka Police are conducting further investigations.
Woman’s body found in septic tank
A body of a woman was found inside a septic tank at a tourist hotel in Pinwatta, Panadura on 29 March evening.
The body was recovered after opening a complaint filed by the owner of the tourist hotel, located at a Housing Complex in Pinwatta.
Police found that several employees of the hotel had become acquainted with the victim while at a nightclub located in Kadawatha. They had later brought her to the said tourist hotel in Pinwatta.
Meanwhile, the concrete lid of the septic tank was opened in the presence of Panadura Additional Magistrate Lahiru N. Silva.
Police arrested two suspects aged 40 and 45 years, residents of Piliyandala and Boralesgamuwa areas.
After the inquest, the body was kept at the Panadura Hospital for the post-mortem.
Pinwatta Police are conducting further investigations.
Body caught up in fishing net
Akkaraipattu Police launched an investigation into a corpse of a man found in a fishing net.
Fishermen in the Akkaraipattu coastal area informed Police of seeing the body caught up in the net.
The deceased was said to be between 45 – 50 years. However, the identity of the deceased was yet to be confirmed.
The body is lying at the Akkaraipattu Hospital following the magisterial inquiry. Akkarapattu Police are conducting further investigations.
