Govt yet to form strategy – Bandula

The Sri Lankan Government has yet to form a strategy for utilising the USD 1 billion credit line provided by India to import essential commodities for the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year festive season, Trade Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena revealed yesterday (30).

The Minister said the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka, Finance Ministry, and Trade Ministry are holding discussions with regard to a proper methodology for utilising the credit line and making the festive month a success.

Speaking at a press conference organised by the Presidential Media Centre themed ‘The Truth’, he said that the Government should find a proper way to use the credit line so that benefits can be reaped in a healthy manner.

The Indian Government agreed to provide a USD 1 billion credit line for the importation of essential commodities such as food and medicine.
