State Radio Wards Ceremony was held recently at the Elphinstone Theatre, Maradana under the aegis of the State Minister of National Heritage, Performing Arts and Rural Arts Promotion Vidura Wickramanayaka. Organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs under the purview of the Ministry of Buddhasasana, religious  and Cultural Affairs, the State Radio Awards Ceremony aims to felicitate journalists who have rendered an invaluable service for the social, economical, and cultural development of the country via the radio – the mean of first electronic media of the country.

This year’s award ceremony has seen over a 1,000 applications in all three languages and the awards were given in 27 different categories. The Prathibha Pranama Award – the once-in-a-lifetime honorary award for exceptional service rendered to the radio – was awarded to six radio veterans; Sumana Jayathilaka, D.S. Dayarathna, Shan Wickremesinghe, Merle Walpola, Newton Gunarathna, and S, Nadaraja Iyer.
