The Avant Super Cup 2022 has created much interest among local basketball fans and the ‘A’ Division finals will take place on Saturday evening at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium. In the semi-finals worked off earlier this week, Avant Basketball Club suffered a shock defeat at the hands of visiting Kaunas Baskteball Club from Lithuania.

Avant BC with several leading Sri Lankan players in their ranks including two foreign nationals, had stormed through to the semis, but they were caught off guard in the knockout game. Kaunas were leading 43-26 at the end of the first half, and although Avant fought back gallantly in the second half and momentarily held the lead, the damage done in the first half proved to be costly. Eventually, they went down by seven points. The final score was 77-70.

Dasun Mendis was the star performer for Avant with 28 points. M. Pakas was the standout performer for Kaunas scoring 20 points.

The second semi-final between Colombo Bulls and Sri Lanka Army saw Bulls cruising to a comfortable 23 point win over Sri Lanka Army. Praneeth Udumalagala was the star for Bulls scoring 30 points. Pawan Gamage was the leading scorer for Army with 21 points. The final score was 81-58.
