Thushara Madanayake’s mighty six off the last ball, along with a haul of 3 wickets, helped Vintage Cricket Club beat Padukka Veterans by one wicket in their Masters 30 over cricket encounter played at the Dharmapala College grounds recently.
Padukka Veterans taking first lease of the wicket scored 171 in 27.3 overs, with top order batter Mangala Kumara stroking a fluent 66 runs. Sanjaya Devapura, Ruwantha Dharmakeerthi and Mahesh Kuruppu made useful contributions to get them to a decent score. Suwanji Madanayake and Abdul Jabbar captured two wickets each, but the main wrecker was Thushara Madanayake with three scalps.
In reply, Asela Fernando and Damith Hunukumbura gave Vintage Cricket Club a good start and kept the score board ticking with some valuable runs. Carman Mapatuna and Brigesh Jeganathan also supported with 17 runs each, but it was left to the hero of the match, Thushara Madanayake (43*), to take them over the line. He had to get 4 runs off the last ball with the score reading 168/9 wickets, and took the burden onto his shoulders and got the winning runs with a mighty hit for six to ensure a thrilling win for his club.
