Private bus unions threaten to cease operations

Chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) Gemunu Wijeratne warned yesterday (29), that if the Government fails to provide a permanent solution to resolve the long drawn out fuel crisis in the coming weeks, private buses would cease to operate.

He said LPBOA is encountering a great struggle to supply adequate fuel to buses that are registered with the Union, and they are being compelled to take this decision due to the failure of the depots coming under the purview of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) to provide sufficient fuel supplies to their buses.

Wijeratne further mentioned that they would resort to a major Trade Union action in conjunction with other trade unions and stakeholders if the Government fails to respond to their demands favourably.
