The body of a 16-year-old schoolboy was discovered at the Kirindi Ella anicut in the Udathula area in Pahalamuna, Pelmadulla in the morning on 28 March.
The deceased has been identified as a Grade 10 student from Pelmadulla, Police said.
The student had left his house on 26 March saying he was going to Lellupitiya. His family had filed a complaint with the Ratnapura Police on 27 March when he didn’t return home.
Police investigations revealed that the student drowned while swimming in the reservoir with three other students.
His colleagues had fled the scene without informing anyone about the incident, Police said.
The three students who accompanied the victim have been arrested. Pelmadulla Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
An individual was killed when he slipped and fell under a train carriage when he tried to board a train travelling from Madampe to Colombo at Horape railway station.
The deceased has been identified as a 57-year-old resident of Ragama.
Two people were killed in a road accident in Alawwa on 28 March. Police said that the accident occurred when a van heading towards Giriulla collided head-on with a three-wheeler travelling in the opposite direction at high speed.
Both the three-wheeler driver and passenger were critically injured. They both died on admission to Alawwa hospital.
The deceased have been identified as 31 and 38-year-old residents of Nawathalwatta, Alawwa.
Police say the accident occurred as a result of the three-wheeler driver’s recklessness.
A motorcyclist was killed in a fatal accident with a lorry in Madampe on 28 March.
Police said the motorcycle was travelling towards Madagama collided head-on with a lorry that was travelling in the opposite direction, crucially injuring the motorist and pillion rider.
The motorcyclist had died after being admitted to Chilaw Hospital while the pillion rider is currently being treated at the same hospital.
The deceased was identified as a 19-year-old resident of Kakkapalliya.
A woman was killed after falling down from the footboard of a bus in Katupotha on 28 March.
Police said a woman travelling in a private bus heading towards Wariyapola fell from a footboard of a bus while trying to get off the bus. The woman, who was seriously injured, died on admission to Wariyapola Hospital.
The deceased has been identified as a 55-year-old resident of Ranorawa, Kanaththewewa.
Police say the accident was caused by the bus driver’s negligence.
