Locomotive engine operators have suspended their trade union action hours after it began at midnight yesterday (29).

Membership of their union withdrew from overtime duties as a protest against the revision of train ticket fares.

President of the union Indika Dodangoda said they had a telephone conversation with the transport minister, after which the suspension was decided.

The cabinet has permitted Sri Lanka Railways to raise fares of several categories.
