Sri Lanka Test skipper Dimuth Karunarathne is set to make his county cricket debut when he signed with Division 1 team Yorkshire for this season. Karunarathne, 34 is hoping to leave Sri Lanka by 10 April to join Yorkshire for whom he is set to play four matches before joining the Sri Lanka team in Bangladesh for the two match Test series.
Accordingly, he is set to play against Gloucestershire at Bristol from 14 to 17 April, followed by a match against Northamptonshire from 21 to 24 April at Northampton. He will then move to Leeds to play against Kent from 28 April to 1 May, and the final match against Essex from 5 to 8 May at Chelmsford.
Karunarathne is currently ranked 6th in the ICC Test ranking. He has scored 5,620 runs in 76 Tests averaging 39.5, and has been in sublime form in recent years, opening in difficult conditions.
Suranga Lakmal is the only other Sri Lankan who plays county cricket. He has been signed by Derbyshire following his retirement from International cricket.
