Upcountry People’s Front (UPF) is not ready to work with the Government that betrays its citizens, said the General Secretary of UPF, Prof. Sangaran Vijaya Sandiran.
Addressing a media briefing held recently, he said that the statements that are being virally shared on Media including social media, indicating that the UPF had participated in the All-Party Conference (APC) on Wednesday (23) was false and reiterated that it did not attend it.
“In solidarity with the decision of the Tamil Progressive Alliance we have not participated in the APC and it appears that other parties may have used our party-name to discuss matters.
“As a result of the Government’s inaction, we have been pushed into a severe economic crisis. Amidst such a situation, there is no point in our attending it, he noted.
“If the people who have been expelled from our party have used our name to represent at the conference, it is a punishable offence. UPF is an organisation which was formed with stipulated guidelines and policies to charter its activities and not according to the whims and fancies of individuals,” he stressed.
“Therefore, if anyone misuses the name of UPF, I vehemently condemn it and we as a party have decided to take appropriate action against such incidents.” he added.
