Tax on dates slashed to Rs 1

The Finance Ministry announced that the import levy imposed on a kilogramme of dates has been slashed by Rs 199 with effect from yesterday (28), as a relief for Ramadan. 

Issuing a special statement, the Finance Ministry said, the revised levy would be as low as Rs 1.00; previously it was Rs 200 per kg. “The tax has been reduced as a relief measure for Muslims during the upcoming Ramadan fast,” the Ministry said.

The Ministry also refuted reports that the Government had suspended the import of dates.
