The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has been encouraged by Indian external affairs minister S. Jaishankar to continue engaging with president Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Jaishankar has noted the meeting the TNA had with the president recently, and asked the party to ensure the government’s promises on addressing Tamils specific concerns are implemented, The Hindu reports.
The visiting Indian minister has met with a TNA delegation led by its leader R. Sampanthan, as well as from the Tamil Progressive Alliance led by Mano Ganesh.
Later, Jaishankar tweeted about the meetings, Mr. Jaishankar, in his tweets on the meetings, said he discussed the “realisation of the aspirations of the Tamils of Sri Lanka for equality, justice, peace and dignity,” with the TNA, and “socio-economic issues of the [ Malaiyaha Tamil] Indian origin Tamil community” with the TPA, reiterating India’s commitment to development partnership with the community.”
