The fifth Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) summit, hosted by the Government commenced in Colombo yesterday (28), at the BMICH.
The three-day summit will be held in hybrid mode, with in-person and virtual participation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will chair the BIMSTEC Summit on 30 March.
During the summit and preceding meetings, delegates will discuss the progress of BIMSTEC as a regional group.
The summit is also expected to adopt the BIMSTEC charter and sign several legal agreements.
External Affairs Minister of India Dr S. Jaishankar arrived in the island on Sunday (27) while the Secretary-General of BIMSTEC, Tenzin Lekphell arrived earlier on 26 March.
