No permanent Directors and permanent Superintendents have been appointed to nearly 50 State hospitals in the last five-year period, Ceylon Today reliably learns.
According to Health Ministry sources, hospital administration has been affected as Directors and Superintendents appointed on a temporary basis were currently overseeing administration.
These hospitals include Karapitiya and Kandy Teaching Hospitals, Gampaha, Hambantota and Kurunegala General Hospitals and a number of leading State hospitals in the country.
The president of the Interim Medical Services (IMS), Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa said, even though a procedure was announced during the tenure of former Health Minister, Pavithra Vanniarachchi regarding the appointment of permanent District Hospital Directors, Superintendents and Deputy Directors, it was halted due to the objections raised by some Doctor Associations.
Deputy Secretary of the Health Ministry, Dr. Sunil de Alwis said the matter will be resolved in April.
