St. Benedict’s take honours in drawn game


The annual cricket encounter between St. Benedict’s College Kotahena and Wesley College Colombo for the ‘Cartman Cup’ ended in a draw at Campbell Park on Saturday.

St. Benedict’s won the toss and elected to field. Wesley scored 218 runs for 9 wickets in their 65 overs. Linal Subasinghe (34), Ashan Ishira (31), Chamath Gomez (30), Sanithu Amarasinghe (27 n.o.), Semila Liyanage (25), Tilshan Senanayake (24) and Anudith Wickramasinghe (19) helped to build their inning. Dilan Thabrew claimed 4 wickets for 42 runs. Sachin Senanayake and Chamath Chathurya claimed 2 wickets each.

St. Benedict’s scored 234 runs in 64 overs. Sharujan Shanmuganathan top scored with 82. Dilan Thabrew followed up his four wickets with a fine half century. Kojitha Himsara and Shenel Samarathunga also made useful contributions. Uvin Perera claimed four wickets, while Chamath Gomez claimed two.

Wesley had scored 162 runs for 8 wickets in 69 overs at close. Sanithu Amarasinghe (30), Anudith Wickramasinghe (30), Chamath Gomez (25) and Ashan Isira (24) were the chief scorers. Ashen de Soyza claimed 5 wickets for 47 runs.
