The Meteorology Department predicted yesterday (27) that showers or thundershowers could occur in several parts of the country today (28).

Showers or thundershowers could occur in a number of locations in the North Central, North Western, Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces after 2 p.m. or during the night.

The Department further predicted that fairly heavy showers above 50 millimetres can also be expected at some places in the North Central, North Western and Central Provinces.

The public are cautioned against possible heavy winds and lightning strikes and to take adequate precautionary measures to minimise damage caused by temporary localised heavy winds and lightning strikes.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers could occur at a few places in the deep and shallow seas off the coast from Puttalam extending to Galle via Colombo, Kalutara and Hikkaduwa.

Wind velocity is expected to be from 20 to 30 kilometres per hour from Southerly, South Easterly direction in the seas surrounding the island.
