Give Finance portfolio to PM – Ven. Muruththettuwe Thera

BY Thameenah Razeek

Chief Incumbent of the Abhayarama Temple and Colombo University Chancellor, Ven. Muruththettuwe AnandaThera proposed the Finance Minister’s portfolio should be handed over to the Prime Minister to reduce public dissatisfaction with the Government.

According to him, the public did not elect a Government to stand in queues, stay in the dark or travel on foot. He said the public desire was to develop the country and create a beautiful Sri Lanka. According to the Chancellor, despite 6.9 million people electing the Government, it is not giving these people a hearing. He accused the administration of giving a hearing to a single person and working to appease him, which has increased public displeasure. To alleviate public disappointment and frustration, he proposed that the Minister of Finance, Basil Rajapaksa be given another assignment and that Ministry of Finance be handled by the Premier who would then lead the country forward.

The Thera said they wanted President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to remain in office. “Regardless of the agreements signed by the Government, the assets of the country should not be leased. Politicians are people who profit from any venture. When the 20th Amendment was proposed, we asked the deposed Minister, Wimal Weerawansa not to vote in favour but he however voted in favour. Politicians should never be trusted,” he said.
