Required fertilizers will be provided without shortage – minister

Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage assures farmers that the fertilizer required for the upcoming Yala season will be made available without any shortage.

The expectation is to cultivate 500,000 hectares of paddy during the season, and measures have been taken to provide farmers with the required fertilizer, fungicides and pesticides, he says.

In addition, fertilizers required for the cultivation of other crops such as vegetables, fruits and maize will be imported and a fertilizer subsidy will be provided for carbonic fertilizers.

Aluthgamage says that farmers should not be unduly apprehensive about this.
