CBSL issues commemorative Rs.20 coin

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) today (21) issued a circulation standard commemorative coin with a face value of Rs. 20 to mark the 150th Anniversary of Census of Population and Housing (CPH) in Sri Lanka.

The coin was issued at the request of the Department of Census and Statistics (DCS), in recognition of an event that contributes to the socio-economic development of the country.

In a statement, CBSL noted that while the first CPH (in Sri Lanka) was conducted in 1871, the 15th CPH, originally scheduled to be conducted in 2021 concurrent to its anniversary, will be conducted either this year or next, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, CBSL also issued a circulation standard commemorative coin with a face value of Rs. 20 to mark the 150th Anniversary of Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo.

The coin was issued at the request of the faculty, in recognition of its contribution to the nation as the first medical faculty in the Sri Lanka.
