Elderly man in kerosene queue collapses & dies


An elderly man waiting in line for more than five hours to obtain kerosene at a filling station in Kandy town collapsed and died yesterday afternoon (19).

The 71-year-old from Wattegama was rushed by ambulance to hospital, but was pronounced dead upon admission.

There have been several instances of people falling sick while queuing up for hours for fuel and other essentials that are in severe short supply and the prices of which are skyrocketing.

This has prompted protests in Colombo and many other areas accusing the authorities of failure to fulfill their responsibilities.
