Former Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila has attributed the recent fuel price hike to the depreciation of the rupee among other factors.
Speaking at a media briefing today (14), Gammanpila stated that the increase in global fuel prices was not the only reason for the recent fuel price hike in the country.
The prices of both LIOC and CEYPETCO prices were recently increased, making this the highest increase in fuel prices.
Moreover, Gammanpila noted that the government could have eased the burden on the public by limiting non-essential government expenditures, as they earn a daily income of over Rs. 750 million solely from the taxes levied on fuel.
