The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will take a decision tomorrow (5) on whether to vote in favour or against the third reading of the 2019 Budget.
This was revealed today (4) by United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) General Secretary and Parliamentarian Mahinda Amaraweera.
Speaking to Ceylon Today, he added that the SLFP could not arrive at a decision with regard to the vote at the special Opposition Members meeting that took place today (4). The meeting was chaired by President Maithripala Sirisena and Leader of Opposition Mahinda Rajapaksa.
“We went for it but we didn’t take a decision there. We’ll come to a decision today,” said Amaraweera.
However, as declared previously, the Joint Opposition is prepared to vote against the third reading of the 2019 Budget.
Meanwhile, addressing the media in Colombo, MP Dilan Perera said that he will vote against the budget whilst MP S.B. Dissanayake said that he has not yet decided whether to vote against or not, adding that such a political decision should be taken cautiously.
