President of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Shammi Silva has said yesterday (2) that random breathalyzer tests will be done on cricketers.
The Board has taken this decision after national Test skipper Dimuth Karunaratne was involved in an accident under the influence of alcohol.
Silva said that those found guilty will receive hefty fines.
In order to send a strong message to the players, the Board has imposed a fine of US$ 7,500 on Dimuth Karunaratne.
Karunaratne on Monday (1) issued an undue apology to the general public for his behavior.
Karunaratne was involved in an accident last Sunday (31) morning which caused heavy damages to the three-wheeler which he came in contact with.
On Monday (1) in Courts, Karunaratne offered to buy a new three wheeler for the driver who has now been discharged from the hospital without any serious injuries.
