Parliamentarian and President of the Sri Lanka National Council (SLNC) Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thera, said he will definitely bring a No-Confidence Motion (NCM) against Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen, in the coming week.
Addressing a Media briefing in Colombo, convened by the SLNC, Ven. Rathana Thera yesterday (12) said many allegations have been levelled against Minister Bathiudeen, but no one questions him or has proved it.
But as a responsible citizen, he will bring the motion and will lead it.
“I clearly state that I will definitely bring the motion next week and it is Speaker Karu Jayasuriya’s responsibility to make it fast, if not I will certainly pressure the Speaker about this in Parliament,” he added.
Speaking further, the Thera said that Joint Opposition (JO) MPs from the SLFP and UNP have agreed to support the No-Confidence Motion against Rishad Bathiudeen, adding that parliamentarians who really want to see the truth will definitely support the motion.
He stressed that President Maithripala Sirisena should take steps to sack Western Province Governor Azath Salley, and Eastern Province Governor M.L.A.M. Hizbullah, since Parliament does not have the right to remove a Governor appointed by the President.
“We are not stating that we do not need Muslim Ministers or Muslim Governors. What we request is if someone is being appointed for some decision-making position, he or she should see all the races as one.
The explosions took place in Western and Eastern Provinces, and the Governors failed to prevent the carnage. So now, the President
should remove them and appoint someone who can do their jobs as requested,” he added.
